Bayern / Stuttgart / Werder

Well, this is my first post on what promises to be a blog of epic significance in the lives of many. Together, my friends, we can pool our knowledge and gain vast riches at the expense of those who have taken so much from us in the past. Please post your tips (with odds and details of the bookmaker please) as comments, and any bets you’re placing. We promise they won’t get jinxed. Hopefully.

It's a slow Tuesday morning at the office, and I'm considering a bet on tonight's fixtures in the similarly slow Bundesliga. German football has never appealed much to me, but there’s money to be made in any league where there’s some consistent big guns and a steady stream of cannon fodder to be picked off. I’ve got my eye on the following:

Stuttgart (1.66) v Hamburg
Nurnberg v Werder Bremen (1.83)
Bayern Munich (1.25) v Hannover 96 (tomorrow)

Bayern and Stuttgart look like bankers from where I’m standing, with the latter looking suspiciously good value. I’ve been trying to work out if this is some kind of derby (never bet on derbies), but a quick look at the map would suggest otherwise. Bayern haven’t been great recently, but at home they should be too strong for the bottom club. Stuttgart’s home form also suggests they’ll give this season’s surprise dunces the hiding they surely deserve.

Werder Bremen are a slightly different proposition. While priced reasonably to win, the smart money could be on the draw at 3.2. Nurnberg seem to draw a few, especially at home, and I’m always a little wary on betting on the top 3 in a league all to win.
